A. Whether you are looking for traditional wedding verses or an informal verse for your special event party, we can help! Q. Can I customize my invitation with my own, proprietary artwork?
Yes, we can print your non-licensed, proprietary artwork on our line of Jean M® Mix and Match invitations for a charge of $40.00. There may also be additional charges and production time required depending upon the setup of your invitation. Please place these orders via phone so that we may discuss the transfer of artwork to our production facility. Classic, Modern and Occasions to Celebrate invitations feature preprinted designs or verses that may not be changed. For additional questions, please e-mail us: invitations@cs.michaels.com or call toll-free 1-888-314-5642 to speak with a Customer Service representative.

Q. May I print my invitation in a language other than English?
Yes, we can print your wording in any language that uses the English alphabet at no additional cost. Be sure to proof your wording accurately, as we will print exactly what you send to us in the font and ink color desired. Please send us camera-ready copy if the language you are using to print your invitations does not use the English alphabet; camera-ready copy will be an additional $40.00 per item. Note: If you want (for example) 25 invitations in one language and 75 invitations in another, this will require two separate orders. Q. How do I save my personalized invitation so I can come back and finish later?
We strongly recommend that you save your project(s) to your account for safe and easy access to continue the personalization process. This website’s shopping cart will save every change to each item you personalize. The information will be stored in our system for 30 days. You may view these items in your shopping cart any time you revisit the site within 30 days, provided you use the computer on which you created the items and that you did not delete your browser cookies.

Q. Will my actual printed invitation look exactly as I see it the computer monitor during the personalization process?
Because the computer monitor or printer you use to view our invitations may not be color calibrated to produce an accurate color representation, slight color adjustments may occur. We recommend that you first order a sample of the invitation(s) you wish to purchase to ensure your complete satisfaction. Please allow 7-10 days for requested samples to arrive at your home. Note: Please proof your items carefully during the personalization process. Your order is in process immediately after you submit it; any changes to your product(s) will result in reprinting costs. Be sure to verify all of your information and spelling, as we will print exactly what you submit.

Q. How will I know how to assemble my invitations once I receive them?
There will be invitations that require additional assembly prior to being sent to your guests. Layered cards and invitations with ribbons, embellishments or pockets are examples of products that will require assembly. An assembly guide is available here to walk you through the process.

Q. How do I know which date should be used on my Response Cards?
Typically four weeks prior to your event date would be the date to put onto your response cards. However, a best practice is to check with your caterer to determine the date for the final guest count. You may also want to add a few days to give yourself time to organize and confirm responses. Remember to include a stamp on your response envelope to make it easy for your guests to reply.

Q. What is the best way to budget for invitation postage?
Most wedding invitations require more than a standard postage stamp. Take a sample invitation complete with all enclosure cards and envelopes to your local Post Office to determine the correct postage. And don’t forget to budget for the postage stamp that is customarily included on the RSVP to make it easier for your guests to reply.

Q. Will I receive both inner and outer envelopes with my invitation order?
Some invitations will feature your choice of both inner and outer envelopes depending on your occasion and style of invitation. Most styles of Classic and Modern wedding invitations include blank inner and outer envelopes at no additional charge. You may enhance the beauty of your envelopes with optional colored liners and a printed return address on outer envelopes.

Q. What additional services do you provide?
Michaels™ Custom Invites provides a variety of online printing services:

Two Ink Colors: $40.00 on select items. Please contact Customer Service at: 1-888-314-5642 to assist ordering a two color ink invitation.

Proofs: $1.00 per piece. An electronic email will be sent to you to proof each item you request. The PDF proof will appear as the order will be printed and allows for one final review prior to order production. To request a proof, contact Customer Service at: 1-888-314-5642.

Customer Supplied Artwork: $40.00 per item. If you wish to have your own artwork placed on an invitation, there will be an extra charge for creating your item. Please contact Customer Service for any special artwork requests at: 1-888-314-5642.

Address Envelopes: It's easy to professionally print envelopes from Michaels™ Custom Invites Addressing Service! Simply choose your lettering style, create your guest list and upload.

Photo Questions


Q. What photo formats do you recommend for my personalized photo cards?
You may upload your proprietary photos in the following formats: BMP, GIF, JPG, JPEG, PCT, PICT, TIF and TIFF.

Q. What does it mean that my photo is below the minimum requirements?
It means that your image may be too small for the photo product you are ordering which can result in a grainy or pixilated image on your item. Black and white images should have a resolution of 600 dpi (dots per inch) or higher. All other images should have a resolution of 300 dpi or higher. Since the overall appearance of your item is highly dependent on the quality of your photos, it is important to use the original and unedited photos; attempting to resize the photo may distort the image quality. If you have a photo under the minimum requirement, we recommend that you select a different photo in a larger size.

Q. Will my photos be edited or adjusted?
Your photo(s) will be reproduced as it appears on your product preview and in the photo quality submitted.

Q. Is there a limit to the number of photos that I can store in my account?
You are welcome to store an unlimited number of photos in your account.

Yes, the largest size that we can accept is 10MB.

Q. How long will my photos be stored in my account?
The photos that you upload to your account will be stored for 6 months. After that time period your photo(s) are automatically removed from your account.

Q. How do I attach a photo to my order?
It’s easy to order products that feature your personal photo! Either shop online from home, or bring your digitial photos into a participating Michaels store to order. We are unable to accept any non-digital photos for personalization.

Q. Do you offer proofs?
Throughout our personalization process, you will see an accurate, up-to-date preview of your stationery item at all times. This preview feature is our version of a digital proof, and it’s FREE! If you are interested in ordering a PDF proof, please contact our Customer Service team at 1-888-314-5642; an additional cost of $1.00 will apply. Proofs will be emailed to you within 48 hours of requesting.

Q. How do I begin to create my personalized invitation or stationery order?
Relax and enjoy the process! We’ve created an easy process for you to follow when ordering your very own personalized invitations or stationery items. Our simple online ordering system allows you to customize and preview your cards before completing your order. By clicking on any product, you will be directed to that item’s product detail page which features all of that product’s information. Once there, you can begin the personalization process by clicking on the "Personalize It" button.

Q. How many invitations should I order?
A finalized guest list will help you to determine the guest count for your invitations. When sending wedding invitations, we strongly recommend that you order an extra 25 invitations for last-minute additions, returns and keepsakes. An additional 25 invitations will be a great savings compared to placing a new order of 25 invitations.

Q. How long will it take to get my order? Do you offer expedited delivery?
Our invitation orders are printed, packaged and shipped within 3 business days after you submit your order. We have a variety of shipping methods available including Ground, Second-Day, Third-Day and Next-Day. We recommend that you order three to five months prior to your event to allow sufficient time to get your invitations addressed, assembled and mailed. Wedding invitations should be mailed at least six weeks in advance. If you are concerned that your order will not arrive in time for your wedding or special event, please contact us before you place your order: 1-888-314-5642. Our dedicated Customer Service team will be happy to coordinate your order and delivery time with you.

Q. Can I make changes to my invitation after I have submitted my order?
Your satisfaction is extremely important to us! We will do our best to make your changes before your order is processed, however, due to our fast turnaround time, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to intercept or change any order once it has reached our facility. We strongly advise that you make sure your order is correct before placing it. If we are able to catch the order before we process it, there will be a $10.00 charge for each part of the order to make the change. If the order has been printed, there will be the $10.00 charge plus a percentage of the order. Please call our Customer Service at: 1-888-314-5642 for assistance.

Q. What is your Return Policy?
At Michaels, we want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase and your Michaels™ Custom Invites experience. We hope that your expectations will be exceeded by our quality and service. If you are not satisfied with your finished product, please follow the steps outlined below so we can resolve the situation.

Return Policy for Personalized Items
If you are dissatisfied with your personalized items, please contact Customer Service within 14 days of receiving your order. We will work with you to resolve the issue quickly. If your order arrives damaged or with a manufacturing defect, we will gladly replace the damaged or defective item.

It is your responsibility to review your order and confirm that it is correct before submitting it to us. Your order is specifically made for you, and therefore Michaels cannot accept returns or refunds of personalized products if the dissatisfaction is not due to an error by Michaels. For instance, Michaels cannot refund personalized product if the quality issue is due to:

  • Typographical errors, misspelled words or name, incorrect grammar, unfinished text, or other material provided by the user.
  • Low quality or blurry photographs provided by the user. If you receive a warning on screen that your photo is not high resolution and will not print well, select a different photo for your project.
  • Design or creative choices. Please be sure you are satisfied with the color combinations, photographs and overall layout of your products before submitting your order.

Please note that each order you submit is completed by one of Michaels’ professional printing partners. If you are ordering multiple copies of the same product, you are strongly encouraged to order all copies as part of one order to minimize variations in color. We calibrate our printers and work hard to keep the final products as consistent as possible, but slight variances in color may occur. Color or binding variations are normal occurrences and will not be considered manufacturing defects or deficiencies and will not qualify for replacement product.

Return Policy for Non-Personalized Items
If you are dissatisfied with non-personalized items you purchased through Michaels™ Custom Invites, please contact Customer Service within 30 days of receiving your order. We will gladly accept the return of any non-personalized products that are in their original, new, unopened and unused condition. Customer Service will guide you through the appropriate steps to replace the product, or to return the product and receive a refund of the purchase price.

If your return is due to defective or damaged merchandise, we will reimburse you the return shipping costs. If your return is not due to a quality issue, we cannot reimburse you the return shipping costs.

Q. How quickly will my account be credited for a damaged or defective item?
In very limited circumstances we may not be able to fulfill your order to your satisfaction. If we cannot do that and a refund is the only solution, you can expect the refund to post to your account within two to four weeks of processing by Customer Service.

Q. Can I order a sample before I place my order?
Absolutely! We encourage you to order a sample so you may see and feel our high quality invitations before you purchase. Samples can be ordered from the item page during the personalization process. Each invitation sample is $2.50, which includes postage. Samples are sent through the United States Postal System; please allow 10 - 14 days to arrive at your home.

Q. Will you send me a tracking number for my order?
Yes, when your order is shipped, you will receive a tracking number via email. If you established an account, you may also track your order via the Order History area within your account.

Q. Do you ship invitations to Alaska or Hawaii?
If your order is being shipped to Alaska or Hawaii you must select one of the air shipment methods; additional charges will apply and the delivery commitment (e.g.: 2-3 days) may not apply. Add $20.00 to the Ground, Second-Day or Overnight charges listed.

Q. Do you ship invitations to APO and FPO addresses?
We can ship to US APO and FPO addresses. All addresses with a Post Office box address (no street address) can be shipped only through the US Postal Service via Parcel Post.

Q. Can my order be shipped outside of the United States?
Yes! Michaels™ Custom Invites ships to APO and FPO addresses as well as Canada with the exception of the province of Quebec.

Canada orders with street addresses will be shipped via your choice of UPS Ground or UPS Expedited shipping. We are not able to ship C.O.D or to P.O. boxes in Canada. Your credit card provider will charge the appropriate exchange rate. As a convenience to you, Custom Clearance charges, GST, Duties and Taxes are included in the fees above and will NOT be your responsibility at time of delivery. No additional payment is required upon delivery for taxes or fees.

Shipping and handling is not available to Puerto Rico, U.S. Territories or outside the United States and Canada at this time.

Alaska and Hawaii: All orders with street addresses will be shipped UPS. Add $20.00 to the Ground, Second-Day or Overnight charges listed. This extra charge will not appear on your online order confirmation but will be applied to the final order charges and appear in your shipment confirmation email. If you have a post office box, we will ship Priority Mail only. Customers are responsible for paying excise tax upon delivery. Please allow additional time when shipping to remote areas of Alaska.

Shipping and handling is not available to Puerto Rico, U.S. territories or outside the United States and Canada at this time. APO and FPO addresses will be subject to an additional $10.00 charge. Saturday delivery will be subject to an additional $15.00 charge and not available for all delivery locations.

The majority of our professionally printed invitation orders are printed, packed and ready for shipment in 3 business days. Your order delivery date is based upon production time plus the Canadian shipping method selected. Canada orders with street addresses will be shipped via your choice of UPS Ground or UPS Expedited shipping. We are not able to ship to the province of Quebec, C.O.D. or to P.O. boxes in Canada. As a convenience to you, Custom Clearance charges, GST, Duties and Taxes are included in the fees above and will NOT be your responsibility at time of delivery. No additional payment is required upon delivery for taxes or fees.

If there is a concern your order will not arrive in time for your special event, please contact us before you place the order and we will work with you to arrange rush printing and delivery whenever possible. Additional charges may apply for rush service.* While we expect all deliveries to be made on time, weather and geographic locations may prevent delivery as guaranteed.

Glossary



Announcements a card sent to inform people of the wedding, but not invite them to the wedding; often used for destination weddings.

At-Home Cards cards sent out after the wedding to inform people of where the bride and groom will be residing or when they are moving into their new home.

Cocktail Napkins smaller sized napkins used at the bar or with beverages.

Copy all wording that composes the text of an invitation. Copy includes names, dates, locations and verses. Also referred to as wording.

Corner Copy writing that appears at the bottom left or right corners of the invitation. Used to communicate things such as reception information and gifts or no gifts.

Dinner Napkins larger sized napkin, used for main courses.

Direction Cards a printed direction card is enclosed with the invitation to give directions to the ceremony and reception site.

Embossing a specialty production technique involving an image pressed into paper resulting in a raised design. The raised image is often enhanced with inks and foils.

Engraving the most formal of printing methods where the letters appear slightly raised on the paper.

Envelope Seals available in a variety of colors and designs for a finishing touch to a pocket or invitation, announcement and thank you note envelopes.

Favors gifts or treats given to wedding guests as a special thank you.

Flush Left/Right alignment of type, either to the left or the right of the invitation.

Foil Stamping specialty production technique involving thin metallic foil pressed onto paper.

Folder stationery item with at least one fold.

French Fold a sheet of paper folded twice to create a four-paneled invitation.

Gate Fold type of fold where the paper folds in from the left and the right to meet in the middle.

Lettering Style a reference to the font style in which your copy / wording will be printed.

Lined Inner Envelopes an envelope with colored lining on the inside of the un-gummed flap.

Note Cards the brides name and grooms name are printed on the front of this small card and the inside is left blank for a personal note. Perfect for thank you notes or future correspondence.

Overlay piece of paper separate from the invitation that lays over the top and is attached to the invitation to create a layered look.

Pearlize the process that applies a luminous pearl-like finish to part of an invitation, usually to an embossed design.

Programs before the wedding begins, guests are provided a program that lists names of people in the wedding, verses and hymns, and order of service.

Proof a PDF example of the invitation on plain white paper with black and white wording showing the typestyle and layout. A proof is highly recommended prior to printing your invitations.

Reception Cards a small note card sent with the invitation that has reception information for guests.

Response Cards sent with invitation. Guests will return this card so the bride and groom can compile a head count of how many people will be attending.

Save-the-Date Cards cards sent out right after securing the wedding date to inform guests, well in advance, of when the wedding will take place.

Short Fold an item that does not fold exactly in half, where one side is shorter than the other.

Stock the thickness and heaviness of the paper used. Heavy card stock is ideal for traditional wedding invitations.

Thermography a heat process that gives the look of raised, engraved lettering but is less expensive.

Wording all copy, including invitation verses, inviting guests to your wedding.
